Design Gio Ponti

The Gio Ponti faucet was designed by the famous Italian architect in 1953. What characterizes it is the particular “Pontian angle”, a play of lines and inclinations that gives life to the iconic design of a star. So cutting-edge in the 1950s that it is contemporary today, which has allowed the adoption of a new technology aimed at saving energy while fully respecting the original design of the master.

Gio Ponti

Born in Milan in 1891, Gio Ponti is regarded as one of the masters of Italian architecture. After graduating from the Politecnico di Milano in 1921, he began working for Richard Ginori, where he played a key role in renewing the company’s industrial design strategy. With his ceramic works, he won the Grand Prix at the 1925 Paris Exhibition. In 1928, he founded the magazine Domus, contributing to the transformation of Italian design production. In the 1930s, he joined the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (ADI) and became a professor at the Faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, a position he held until 1961. The 1950s marked the creation of some of his most significant works. Thanks in part to his friendship with Spartaco Mamoli, Ponti began to explore the world of bathroom design, creating the Montecatini washbasin in 1949. Just four years later, his hand gave life to a new tap, where a play of lines and angles introduced the now-iconic star-shaped handle.
